Qualified Change in Status
During the year, you may need to add or drop dependents from
coverage. If you make the change within 60 days of a family
status change affecting the dependent, any change in your
cost for coverage will be on a pretax basis, and evidence
of the dependent's good health will not be required for adding
coverage for that dependent.
Qualified changes in status may include:
- Change in marital status - marriage, divorce, legal separation,
annulment or death of a spouse.
- Change in number of eligible dependents - birth, adoption,
placement for adoption, or death of dependent.
- Change in employment status for you, your spouse or your
eligible dependent that affects health care coverage.
- Inability of you or your dependent to meet your provider's
coverage requirements because of age, student status or
similar circumstances, if it results in the loss of health
care coverage.
- Enrollment by you, your spouse or dependent in Medicare
or Medicaid.
- Court judgment, decree or order requiring coverage for
your dependent child(ren).
- Any other changes permitted by the Internal Revenue Service.
